These two get compared constantly in community roundups because they're chasing the exact same capability on the exact same printhead family — the Epson i3200 — which makes the comparison unusually direct for this category.
The gap between them isn't hardware ambition, which is similar on paper. It's demonstrated maturity. HeyGears' Full-3D Pack is described in CUPP's data as actually working: a CMYK-plus-two-white-plus-transparent-plus-water-soluble-support system, real enough that reviewers have covered it as a hands-on capability, not a promise. Morpho's Pro model, running a comparable i3200 head, is explicitly flagged as unconfirmed for the same capability — "no freestanding full-color 3D print has been shown, no price or build volume published for this mode" — and CUPP's own analysis calls it a roadmap claim rather than a confirmed feature.
Morpho's advantage is everything adjacent to the printhead. Its vision system — dual 8MP stereo-vision, IR structured light, a 5MP ReliefScan macro mode, and a collision-avoidance laser — is meaningfully more elaborate than the G1X's fixed line-scan camera, and one independent hands-on account from the MRRF maker festival did praise the texture quality and alignment speed on a live demo unit. Price also favors Morpho by $500.
But Morpho hasn't launched its Kickstarter yet, where HeyGears' campaign has already passed $7 million in its first 22 hours — a real gap in how far along each company actually is toward shipping anything.
If full-color 3D output has to be a real, working capability rather than a specification the head theoretically supports, the G1X is the only one of these two that's demonstrated it. Morpho is worth watching for its vision-system ambition, but as of this comparison it hasn't shown the one feature this pairing is actually about.
